About The Gadfly
My name is Ken Rogers. In 2014, my wife was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had a total thyroidectomy. That experience has led us down an endless and ongoing journey to reclaim her health.
The byproduct of that has been the realization that the entire system that we call healthcare is built on top of corruption, greed, lies, and assumptions.
It is not designed to keep people healthy. And it does not have the best interests of individuals in mind.
This journey down the healthcare rabbit hole has had far-reaching effects on how I think about the world and the systems we rely on every day.
It has made me realize how much of our daily life is built on assumptions that the information we have available to us is correct.
That the authorities and experts are not only competent but benevolent.
That we as humans progressively enhance our collective knowledge of the world.
If the assumptions we have about the world are incorrect, it poisons everything else we try and learn and accomplish.
Francisco d’Anconia, a character in Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, used the phrase “Check your premises” to capture this.
The Gadfly is my exploration into and attempt to call out the flawed ways the world works and the unexamined assumptions we all have about it.
